Sparkle icon AI Overview

Grass is a DePIN project that monetizes idle internet bandwidth via a ZK-powered Solana layer‑2, rewarding node operators with $GRASS tokens through point-based epochs and recurring airdrops; it already reports millions of active nodes and multi‑petabyte daily traffic.

  • Scale & demand: Millions of active nodes, 1M+ concurrent connections and ~3PB/day retrieval indicate strong product-market fit for bandwidth monetization.
  • Airdrop strategy: Focus on uptime and scarce network points—run multiple apps/devices, hit milestones and use referrals to maximize future airdrop share.
  • Token & risk profile: $GRASS yields governance and staking, backed by VCs, but price volatility and unclear future distribution pose execution risk despite high upside.

Grass airdrop season 1 was one of the most anticipated rewards of early 2025. The project distributed 100 million GRASS tokens to more than 1.5 million wallets.

Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) projects were all the rage before Aster and Hyperliquid came along. Late 2025 has been the year of the Perp Dex. Or has it?

DePIN continues to be a huge growth area, and one of the most popular crypto narratives. Reports and data from popular crypto data aggregator Coingecko indicate that DePIN is one of the top narratives for this year, with an established market cap of over $16 billion (even after the Black Friday crash on October 10).

Some of the most popular DePIN projects look at turning devices such as mobile phones and computers into blockchain-enabled nodes, empowering them to generate token rewards passively.

Grass is one such project, focussing on monetizing unused internet bandwidth through a global, decentralized network of connected devices.

What is Grass?

Grass is a ZK-powered layer 2 for the Solana blockchain that shifts unused internet bandwidth from idle users to institutions that need it for resource-intensive applications such as developing AI.

After epochs have concluded and points have accrued, it rewards the users with $GRASS tokens for doing so.

Grass enables, amongst other things, decentralized web scraping for AI models.

Is the Airdrop confirmed?

The $GRASS token has a current market cap of around $122 billion, with 30% of its total supply of 1 billion tokens reserved for community rewards.

Season 1 distributed 100 million tokens or 10% of the supply, to nearly 3 million users, in late 2025, with a deadline to claim of January 2025.

From these numbers, there might be two more equal-sized airdrops, or many more smaller ones. There are second and third-party sources on the net that state 17% of the total token supply will go to season 2 of the airdrop, but there is no readily available confirmation of this.

However, future airdrops do appear to have been confirmed, and points are tracked in the official Grass dashboards.

How to position for Grass airdrops

Though the first airdrop has been and gone, anyone with an internet connection and a Solana wallet can now sign up for and farm the upcoming airdrops. Each airdrop hunter should have two primary goals:

Earn uptime points – for providing your idle bandwidth

Earn network points – when your idle bandwidth is actively utilized

Network points are much more scarce and therefore likely to be more valuable than uptime points, but it is not known how to increase your chances of earning these points beyond having as much uptime as possible.

Grass users can refer friends to earn a share of their future uptime points.

Holders can also stake their earned $GRASS tokens, but it is unknown if this contributes to future airdrop allocations.

The primary ways to earn points for future Grass airdrops are:

  • Signing up for Grass and downloading the browser extension, mobile app, and desktop app
  • Running each app ideally on separate devices and internet connections (or they will share points earned)
  • Completing milestone-related tasks that reward more points
  • Maintaining uptime with multipliers for mobile or desktop app use

Once connected, your points update regularly and automatically, and the dashboard makes it fun to watch your points accrue:

$GRASS token utility

The $GRASS token offers governance rights to holders, staking components for those who want to earn a yield in more $GRASS, and can be used for payments within the Grass ecosystem. It is likely that the Grass Foundation will outline future utility for the token in its roadmap.

The $GRASS token price has seen negative action, falling from highs of over $3 to lows of around 30 cents.

Grass roadmap

The roadmap includes updates to point mechanisms and distribution, Season 3 sometime next year, and improvements to AI and data models used.

Team & Funding

Grass has received investment from Polychain Capital, Delphi Ventures, Hack VC and Tribe Capital.

The team appears to be managed by Wynd Labs, with whom the Grass Foundation shares a co-founder, CEO.

Verdict

Is it possible that The Grass Foundation and its $GRASS token can onboard millions of new users and return its token to all-time high prices?

Absolutely, and with the relatively low effort required for hunters to start earning points, future airdrop campaigns are unlikely to harm adoption.

Though Grass is currently in Epoch 12 of its second stage “Capturing the web”, Network points only began accruing with Epoch 11. Stage 1 ran for seven official and one bonus epoch, and Stage 2 may be approaching its end, but it is unlikely to be too late to get started now.

Season 3 is coming next year, too. Are you in?
