What’s This?
An artificial intelligence tool created this summary, which was based on the text of the article and checked by an editor. Read more about how we use artificial intelligence in our journalism.Ethereal is a high-performance perpetual DEX launching Oct 20, 2025 on Blast and Arbitrum, built on the Ethena ecosystem and using USDe; it has already attracted over $400M TVL through pre-deposits and testnet campaigns.
- Pre-launch traction: Over $400M TVL from pre-deposits and testnet activity, signaling strong early liquidity and user demand.
- Airdrop playbook: Seasoned point-system, leaderboards and staking incentives imply a likely token distribution; participate via testnet, pre-deposits and referrals.
- Strategic upside: USDe integration, Arbitrum execution and Celestia data layer position Ethereal to capture significant volume and governance value if adoption scales.
Despite the simple fact that it hasn’t actually launched yet, Ethereal, a new perpetual decentralized exchange launching on Ethereum Layer 2’s Blast & Arbitrum, and utilising Ethena’s USDe stablecoin, has over $400 million total value locked (TVL).
Opening with a pre-deposit campaign before launching with a public testnet and later a trading competition earlier this year, Ethereal’s Mainnet Alpha will launch very soon, on October 20, 2025.
What is Ethereal?
Part of the exciting new “perps dex” narrative driven by explosive launches such as Aster, Ethereal is a decentralized exchange launching as part of the Ethena ecosystem – a first of its kind.
It seeks to deliver centralised exchange-like experiences with the privacy-preserving options of a self-custody decentralized exchange.
Ethereal’s use of USDe as its primary stablecoin could see users generate additional rewards thanks to the Ethena stablecoin’s utility.
Further to this, Ethereal offers institutional-grade infrastructure for every trader, 20-ms latency and high processing capabilities. It may become the premier choice for the Ethena ecosystem’s orderbook.
At time of writing, USDe has a market cap of nearly $12.5 billion, suggesting that Ethereal could quickly capture billions in trading volume at launch.
The official Ethereal documentation states that Ethereal will offer the following features:
- Perpetual Futures – High-performance contracts with deep liquidity and reward-yielding margin. It is not yet known how much leverage Ethereal might offer traders, but it seems unlikely to be as high as Aster’s 1001x.
- DeFi apps – Interestingly for a perp dex, Ethereal plans to often lending, borrowing, RWA integration and other functionality post-release.
The EVM Ethereal Chain uses Arbitrum for execution and Celestia’s data layer. Rewards are automated based on regular snapshots that Ethereal takes of a user’s USDe holdings and sent to a reward balance that a user can claim.

Is an Ethereal airdrop confirmed?
Whilst an Ethereal token airdrop has not exactly been confirmed, the project has been running a point system for some time, across several seasons and epochs.
Season 0 allowed users to earn Ethereal points for making a pre-deposit of USDe which would return eUSDe receipt tokens for use in certain boosted DeFi integrations and start accruing points for both Ethereal and Ethena. More than 30,000 airdrop hunters and traders joined season 0.
Season 1 began in August and represents the use of the platform during testnet with tokens that hold no value but reflect the genuine experience. It is split into four Epochs that release new features and functionality over time. Season 1 also saw a points boost given to the pre-depositors from season 0.
Staked Ethena $sENA staking was launched across several seasons (Season 4 has just concluded) via Ethereal, as a way to earn even more points.
Season 2 has not been explicitly confirmed, but the fact that there were two seasons already lends credence to the idea that there will be more. Most likely, Ethereal Season 2 will coincide with the mainnet launch, as a way to farm either the airdrop or tokens post-TGE and airdrop.
Beyond Season 2, it is possible – likely even – that there will be Seaons 3, 4, 5, and beyond. This practice is not uncommon now as platforms seek to grow and maintain their TVLs.
The presumption is that points earned from these seasons will culminate in an airdrop or other rewards, either of an Ethereal token, USDe, ENA, or something else.
How to prepare for the Ethereal airdrop
- Mainnet Alpha: Users seeking to qualify for the airdrop should join the mainnet alpha waitlist as soon as possible, and once approved, begin using the platform in earnest. It is suggested that there will be a leaderboard for referral activity, so invite your network.
- Testnet trading: If possible, join Season 1 on testnet as soon as you can and start trading testnet tokens to start earning points.
- Pre-deposits: Depositing and withdrawing USDe is still possible on the Ethereal app, and accrues daily points. eUSDe can also be utilised in DeFi protocols for additional points.
- Discord roles: Some airdrop hunters put a premium on receiving privileged Discord roles, and this airdrop is no exception.
- Ethena Ena staking: It has been rumoured if not outright confirmed that a specific percentage of a possible Ethereal airdrop would go to those who are staking Ethena’s $ENA token.
Team & funding
Ethereal originated as a community proposal within the Ethena ecosystem, and is lead by pseudonymous developers. This suggests that Etheral may share team members, partnerships, backing and other resources directly with Ethena.
Token utility
Beyond being used as an incentive for traders and holders, a possible Ethereal token would likely bestow governance benefits, enabling votes on decisions pertaining to the future of the platform.
What to expect
It is not clear what to expect from Ethereal as it launches. It could be a huge success, or something that fails to catch and hold the attention of the cryptosphere.
What is known is that the airdrop-hunting community will certainly have feedback to give if they aren’t satisfied with the rewards for their loyalty and time!
