Sonic Labs S Token Airdrop: When Is It And How To Participate?

Sonic Labs has launched its second airdrop, which will distribute approximately $200million worth of S tokens. Although an exact date is not yet specified, users can become eligible by playing Sonic Arcade games.

Sonic Labs, formerly known as the Fantom Foundation, will launch its second airdrop in 2024 to promote user engagement on its new Layer-1 blockchain, Sonic. This airdrop aims to distribute approximately 190.5 million S tokens to both existing users of the Fantom Opera network and newcomers to the Sonic ecosystem.

On 4 November, the first phase of the Sonic Labs airdrop ‘Sonic Boom’ concluded with over 1,000 applications submitted. The airdrop was exclusive to developers. Sonic Labs allocated 37.5% of its total airdrop supply, approximately 71.4 million S tokens, to the Sonic Boom program. This airdrop distributed Sonic Gems — points convertible to S tokens — to up to 30 winning projects across three tiers: Emerald, Sapphire, and Ruby.

However, the second airdrop will be much bigger. Here’s everything you need to know about Sonic Labs upcoming airdrop.

The second airdrop will be available through Sonic Arcade, a digital playground featuring three free-to-play games — Plinko, Mines, and Wheel — each offering opportunities to earn points toward the upcoming S token airdrop. Nearly 140 million S tokens, worth around $200m, will be available for this airdrop phase.

Sonic Arcade is currently live on the Sonic testnet and will continue post-mainnet launch, allowing ongoing point accumulation. The exact date for S token distribution remains unspecified; participants should monitor official Sonic Labs channels for updates. The games use a verifiable random function (VRF) to ensure fairness.

Why did Fantom Foundation rebrand?

Fantom Foundation rebranded to Sonic Labs on 1 August 2024, to coincide with the launch of its new Layer-1 blockchain, Sonic. This strategic shift aims to enhance scalability, security, and user experience beyond what the previous Opera chain offered.

The Sonic blockchain is designed to process over 10,000 transactions per second with one-second confirmation times, setting a new standard for speed and efficiency in the blockchain space.

Alongside the rebranding, Sonic Labs introduced the S token, which will replace the existing FTM token at a 1:1 ratio. The S token serves multiple functions within the Sonic network, including transaction fees, staking, and governance participation.
