Beginning on November 13 in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, the Great Lakes Science Center will accept Bitcoin as payment. Kirsten Ellenbogen, who is currently the CEO noted that they chose to accept cryptocurrency payments to foster the local blockchain community. She figured that they have nothing to lose by accepting it and has acknowledged the excitement in the space.

This is just the beginning. Company adoption is what drives user spending. As more companies accept cryptocurrencies as payment, the more people will spend it.

In an interview, Ellenbogen said, “accepting Bitcoin is just a small part of the momentum to grow a blockchain ecosystem in Cleveland.” She also mentioned that they recently launched a new mobile application. “Last year we launched our mobile app that uses augmented and virtual reality to allow guests to experiment with flames in space and test spacecraft designs re-entering Earth’s atmosphere when they visit the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, and now they’ll be able to use their phone to pay for their admission using Bitcoin.” The takeaway here is that Ellenbogen is technologically minded, and Bitcoin is the second major feat that the Great Lakes Science Center has recently accomplished in the general tech space.

Museums Begin Accepting Bitcoin

The Great Lakes Science Center is the third museum in the US to accept Bitcoin payments. The Museum of History in Florida, as well as the Museum of the Coastal Bend in Texas, have been accepting Bitcoin as early as 2013. Any museums, or general business, that has been accepting Bitcoin this early on has certainly reaped the benefits due to Bitcoin’s price increasing substantially since then. As cryptocurrency enthusiasts, we have little doubt that the Great Lakes Science Center will see substantial gains in the future.
