Facebook has been hiring for blockchain engineers for a while now, but there is no clearly defined goal or purpose for the hires, as far as anyone knows.

Will Facebook Release Anything Soon?

Most likely not. Many speculate that Facebook is hiring blockchain engineers for the purpose of brainstorming and learning about the space. Nothing has been disclosed about specific crypto products or services. Many argue that this is all smoke and mirrors, but Facebook continues to hire despite any skepticism.

It is worth noting that David Marcus currently leads the blockchain efforts at Facebook after leaving his leadership role of the Facebook Messenger app. He also resigned from the board of directors at Coinbase due to conflict of interests. We can then speculate that Facebook may be looking into a payment or brokerage type of service similar to Coinbase, but no one knows for sure.

In the same tweet thread, Pompliano went on to say:
“Betting against David Marcus, Kevin Weil, Morgan Beller, Zuck, Chris Cox, and the FB growth team is insanity. I’ll ride with that crew any day when it comes to building, launching, and scaling products.  Ask their competitors how it went last time.”

Pompliano is betting big on Facebook, and rightfully so. Naturally, crypto enthusiasts disagree with him because Facebook goes against most philosophical beliefs of the community - but he may be right.

Ultimately, blockchain knowledge is in demand. This is a brand new field, similar to the dot-com boom. If you want to begin investing and learning about these new markets, then come check out our start investing guides!
