Expected to start shipping in late December, Sirin Labs has introduced their new phone, “Finney” which is integrating blockchain technology at its core. The phone’s operating system is SirinOS, which is a fork of Android with the intention of more properly integrating blockchain technology.

They plan to offer a decentralized applications (dApps) marketplace as well as a secondary 2-inch screen for users to securely store cryptocurrency in cold-storage. The overall goal of a blockchain focused mobile device is to create less friction for the decentralized world.

Sirin Labs raised over $157,000,000 to fund the development of the phone and now, the phone is competitively priced at $999. Whether the Finney will be successful in the future is uncertain, but it is nice to see a completed product with a step in the right direction for the industry.

Sirin Labs is prepared to start shipping at large scale. They have partnered with Foxconn, the same manufacturer Apple uses. Their CMO, Nimrod May mentioned, “by choosing Foxconn to build the FINNEY, we’re demonstrating the public’s desire to have a mass-market smartphone that is able to safely and securely operate within blockchain and cryptocurrencies.”

It is also worth noting that they will have industry-standard features such as a 12MP camera and 128GB of storage. We are excited to see reviews of the Finney and the impact it will have in pushing the decentralized industry forward.
